Fórsa has warned the Department of Education and Skills that its SNA members will not cooperate with a proposed special needs assistants’ (SNA) pilot project unless there is consultation and engagement with the union.
RTÉ reports that the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation (INMO) is to recommend its members accept Labour Court recommendations from earlier this week, with the ballot due be held between 11th and 25th March.
The Irish Times reports that the Teachers Union of Ireland (TUI) President Seamus Lahart said if it was possible to sort out the nurses pay dispute then it should be possible to address the disparity in pay for teachers. Speaking on Newstalk Breakfast, Mr Lahart said the Labour Court decision to intervene in the nurses strike indicated the Government appeared to be prepared to act when there is a crisis.
An ESRI report has found that disadvantaged social groups, such as lone-parent families, are more likely to have unmet childcare needs and that working-age families with a disabled adult suffered the greatest impact of the failure to meet professional home care needs. The study, commissioned by the Department of Social Protection, examined what groupings were most likely to have unmet formal childcare and professional home care needs.
The minister for housing Eoghan Murphy has defended the Government's housing policy, saying that housing stock has increased drastically with eight times the number of new builds being completed in recent years. He was speaking following the release of Government figures, showing new builds for social housing came in 4% below target last year.
