Mandatory home quarantine for those arriving from overseas came into force last night, as NPHET's weekly briefing reported a "strong decline" in recent Covid infection rates across all ages. 

 

In a further blow to our fragile local democracy, councillors are to be blocked from blocking the sale of local authority land to a new national agency tasked with "ramping up housing supply."

 

Elsewhere, the Financial Services Union (FSU) got no joy at its meeting with Ulster Bank, the Government doubled-down on its Debenhams stance, and the Times reports on the "toxic relationship" between the armed forces and the defence department.

 

And it's reported that talks on new Aer Lingus regional routes could conclude within weeks.

 

Finally, I laughed to learn of the northern teenager ordered by a Judge to learn all the words of The Fields of Athenry. I'd say that hurt more than the £610 fine.
