A Public consultation has been launched on the future of State pensions, aimed at putting the national pension system on a fiscally and socially sustainable basis for the future. Meanwhile, the Examiner has this piece on why the recent move on pensions is merely kicking can down the road.  
 

New Covid-19 restrictions targeted at holidaymakers, including increased fines for those leaving and mandatory hotel quarantine when they return from some destinations, are likely to be part of the Government’s plans to tighten external controls as the country prepares to slowly reopen. Tánaiste Leo Varadkar said a revised plan for “living with Covid” would be unveiled during the week of February 22nd.

The Times, Independent and Business Post reported Fórsa’s warning that thousands of aviation jobs will be lost permanently, unless industry-specific wage supports, easier access to mortgage payment breaks and a plan to ensure aviation’s survival are introduced. 

 

Talks are now under way on alternative ‘non-exam’ option for Leaving Cert students, as it was reported mainstream schools are expected to reopen sometime over a three-week period ahead of Easter. Special education will partially reopen from Thursday of this week when the State’s 140-plus special schools open their doors with 50 per cent student attendance.

 
It’s set to be another cold day across the country as a Status Yellow snow/ice warning remains in place for five counties.
