Council worker wins disability case

A county council has been ordered to pay a former temporary clerical officer €1,000 for failing to fully engage with her following an occupational health report on her condition.


The adjudicator was critical of the employer’s tardy approach after it took seven to eight weeks to obtain a medical review. The council was also criticised for failing to involve the worker in discussions on the review.


Fórsa official Shay Clinton, who represented the worker, said they had gained extensive work experience in the private and public sector without any difficulties. “It’s regrettable the employer did not take any proactive steps to accommodate her needs prior to the expiry of the contract,” he said.
