Delegates representing Fórsa’s local government branches will assemble in Kilkenny next week for the union’s biennial Local Government Division conference. The representatives will elect a new executive for the division, and set the union’s policy and priorities in the sector for the next two years.

The future role of local government will loom large as an issue, against the background of the union’s ‘more power to you’ campaign, which was launched earlier this year. The conference will also debate motions on the future of water services, pay and pensions, housing, libraries, job evaluation, equality and global warming.

Delegates will hear a report on the division’s activities over the last two years, based on its biennial report, which is available here.

The conference will also hear contributions from Fórsa Senior General Secretary Designate Kevin Callinan, and Daria Cabrario of the international trade union federation Public Services International.
