Weeping Trees

Also in this morning's edition of Morning Ireland are reports that Cabinet is to discuss the protection of Irish towns and cities against rising sea levels today, and in health, it's reported that at least 260,000 people are waiting for scans.

The Irish Times editorial shares the caution of the Irish Fiscal Advisory Council as it warns now is not the time for an “everything now approach of tax cuts, increases in current spending and ramping up capital spending all at once,” as it will be wont to do in an election year. The IFAC says the economy is already at full capacity and further stimulus - such as household cost supports and tax cuts - risks overheating.

Elsewhere, airlines are set to be hit with higher fines if passengers do not have valid travel documents upon arriving in Ireland, with penalties of up to a maximum of €5,000 per person. Meanwhile, air passengers are facing a hike in the cost of their flights, the aviation industry has warned, even as it forecasts trillion-dollar revenue for 2024 on the back of record passenger numbers.

Zen

Your Zen moment this morning marks Naksa Day for the people of Palestine. A new documentary film released this month, Where Olive Trees Weep examines the struggles and resilience of the Palestinian people under Israeli occupation. It explores themes of loss, trauma, and the quest for justice.

Have a great day.
